"That was exactly the allegation that Charleymane was making, to which I responded"

I believe you are wrong. I don't believe he alleged any necessary" design. But it is clear from what I posted (and from what I have yet to post if you prove uppity) that Freemasonry had infiltrated the Church and caused fear and consternation.

"I never said anything of the sort Granpa... I called "ridiculous" the allegation that the ultimate goal of Freemasonry is have one of their own as the Pope

Thank you for the honorary...in spite of your atrocious spelling of "grandpa". It is not clear to me that you were designating the Papal Throne as an ultimate goal of Freemasonry. You seemed to be sneering at the idea that Freemasonry could have ANY goal related to the destruction of Catholicism by any means. I think there is a difference in meaning between a goal of Papal influence a la Geoffrey Fisher, and the gratuitous designation of "ULTIMATE" goals. And you said nothing about "Ultimate" goals in the post to which we are referring. You said this:

"The allegation that Freemasons want one of theirs as Pope is so ridiculous that... well... you really need to learn more about it to even understand why."

The fact is that there is nothing "ridiculous" about the allegation, whatsoever.

I should clarify. The idea that Masonry wants one of their own as Pope is a minority viewpoint. It used to be more widely believed, but as time progresses it's becoming evident that it's not necessary. I think that's why John Vennari worded this paragraph in his speech in this particular manner:

"Eventually, a Pope would be elected from these ranks who would lead the Church on the path of “enlightenment and renewal”. It must be stressed that it was not their aim to place a Freemason on the Chair of Peter. Their goal was to effect an environment that would eventually produce a Pope and a hierarchy won over to the ideas of liberal Catholicism, all the while believing themselves to be faithful Catholics."
