If the Republicans had had the Presidency during that time, the great depression would not have happened :-)

What do you mean by "the Depression"?

FDR actually had several depressions during his
presidency.

The one in 1937-1938 was quite severe,
and it can hardly be blamed on the Republicans
considering that Roosevelt was already into his
second term and had already pushed through
all of his "New Deal" policies.
