I think there have been plots within the hierarchy of Buddhism aimed at elevating certain children over others as lamas. Does that count as a takeover?

Certainly more interesting than Freemasonry - no offense to Masons but unless it's Michael Caine and Sean Connery in "The Man Who Would Be King", not a lot of giggles there.
