Do you read the WSJ, John? It is no longer just a financial paper, it's about half-and-half business and other news.

Yes and no. Yes, I read the WSJ regularly. We subscribe and have done so for over six years. No, it's not half-and-half business and other news. It's more like somewhere between 10% and 20% other news. They are clearly trying to make it more than a financial paper but have a very long way to go.

Some, for instance, of the other news, is business news, for instance. A piece in today's WSJ about James Carville is actually about the advertising business and using celebs to sell products. A great deal of what might be considered non-financial is that sort of thing.

Not bad; just not in the same game as the NYTimes.

As for your argument about Bartley's message, that readers go to the newspapers only for opinion, he's wrong. That might be so in the future; but definitely not now.
