There is a chance of that happening if a) Evidence of 911 complicity by US-based actors gets further out of control, and a real investigation cannot be avoided any other way than massive wag-the-dog terrorist attack or nuclear incident with NK, or b) Another terrorist incident gets blamed on Bush Inc. and there are riots in the streets, possibly encouraged by provacateurs, and aided by further staged incidents on an increasing scale, and (c) If investigations have NOT been completed sufficiently to incriminate and expose to the public those who would stage such incidents for political gain. So its a race between expose of all the facts on terrorism, and stonewalling of those facts by "evildoers". The FOIA and the press have been neutralized, Congress and judiciary controlled, but the Executive branch still has a problem with digital communications among Americans. Its probably that (d) control of the internet, is a likely precondition just prior to martial law. All of these elements are already in place under the terms of DHS's "Condition Red", waiting for the trigger events. The broadcast media can be taken over completely, and has been tested in all major cities. Interestingly, they make sure to take over ALL CHANNELS, not just a little crawler at the bottom of the screen to inform people, but the entire screen and audio is cut over to the gov't source, to prevent accidental release of information on what's really happening to the public from any non-gov't source. Next has been the training of local cops to join with military units to keep people in their homes "for their own good", with curfews and confiscation of guns and other weapons. Exercises have been reported in several cities with black ski-masks and no badge identification, which can only be to create anonymity for these stormtroopers. Next has been revamping of all laws to eliminate the Bill of Rights so that no citizen can object, no local court can protect one's rights, and military law prevails, which has been changed to allow secret tribunals authorized only by the President, to arrest, try, and execute in complete secrecy. No further "martial law" decree is needed, that already exists. Finally, we are just waiting for the Executive Branch to decide conditions are just too darn terrorizing, and need to be shut down. It would simply be a coincidence if that happened to protect information on what happened on 911, or keep in office an unpopular president. The economy would stop cold, the only income will be from the gov't, and the people who are starving will be on their knees grateful to their loving gov't for giving them a $5/hr job, and food stamps, along with their Poindexter i.d. tags and loyalty oaths Protesters are handled in detention camps, the rest are either enslaved or stay in their houses. Will all this happen? You can believe it has all be scenario'd to death for decades as one of a number of "contingencies" by RAND and other think tanks (Rummie was head of RAND), and lovingly planned for by PNAC but only, of course, "if necessary". But, no, I think the chances are less than 50%. The cat is out of the bag for too many people, there aren't yet enough troops to control everyone, the FEMA camps aren't ready, too many guns are still owned, not enough SWAT and military teams are ready to shoot their fellow Americans. The American Revolution only took 4% of the adult male population to be committed to overthrow the monarchy. I think we're way past that already. It doesn't mean they won't try, but it means they won't succeed, no matter how bloody it gets, the worst they can do probably is by mistake let someone like Poindexter unlease a plague that wipes out all human life, instead of the less dangerous smallpox which would only kill tens of millions. Other than that, we're in good shape ...
