Then there are classic gems like this one:denbeste.nu "The purpose of this document is to provide a high level strategic view..." Yeah, right. I cannot imagine how any thinking person could take seriously the opinion of a totally unqualified individual who feels the need to remind his audience that his opinions are "high level". Den Beste is popular because he's intelligent Compared to whom? What would you cite as evidence of his intelligence? I'm sure that he knows plenty about software, but that's not what he's talking about. My expectations are actually pretty low, but he doesn't come close to reaching them. Some of the stuff that circulates out there is just astounding. Some time ago I went to David Warren's site; I'd seen the guy quoted here often and wondered who he was. The lead essay on the page was on homosexual marriage, and it was just ridiculous: I've never seen such a loopholed argument in my life. If someone like that was arguing on my side, I'd hire a hacker to blow him offline quick, before he did any more damage. Weird. I've actually considered building a site devoted to ridiculing ideological extremists. I probably won't do it, but I'd love to have some nominations for leftist ideologues that need to be punctured. I never read left stuff, so I don't know who they are, but I'm sure they are out there.
