My goodness, you can't read... take another look at my post...

and if you're referring to the banner displayed on the Navy vessel, yes, their mission was accomplished, they were going home...

That's right, their mission was accomplished, they were going home... there was no reference to the effort in Iraq... tell me something, is English your second language or are you really that stupid?

CC,
Actually, you are wrong. The President never declared "from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln that the mission in Iraq had been accomplished"

re:"Wrong"

edition.cnn.com

"Bush speech to avoid declaration of victory in Iraq
Remarks to tout military success, but cite work ahead" - May 1, 2003 6:33 HKT.

Here's what the President actually said:

"...my fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country.
In this battle, we have fought for the cause of liberty, and for the peace of the world. Our nation and our coalition are proud of this accomplishment -- yet, it is you, the members of the United States military, who achieved it...
... We have difficult work to do in Iraq. We're bringing order to parts of that country that remain dangerous. We're pursuing and finding leaders of the old regime, who will be held to account for their crimes."
