Contrariwise, as I once put it (), my opinion is that Israel is but the latest avatar of the Christian crusades of yore --the revival of the (Christian) Kingdom of Jerusalem. The Franks reclaimed Jerusalem from the Saracens in 1089 and held it up to 1187 when Saladin settled the score, so to speak.... Thus I'd rephrase your sentence into: The Judeo-Protestants of America and Europe and right-wing schemers have put up road blocks to prevent peace because they knew that with Israel as a bait, there was more likelihood that Arab energies would be deflected away from Europe and towards the Israeli sitting duck....
