I like to think that most of our troops are sharper and smarter than the average hamburger flipper.

This is not the point. The recruiter's most likey high school candidate is the kid who comes from a poorer, less educated background and the one who is having trouble in school and at home. The college bound kid is not joining the army. And the typical officer went to college on a ROTC scholarship, save for the service academies...

Al, furthermore, you forget that this volunteer army tends to be staffed with economically challenged segment of the population. Not exactly a fair proposition.

Not exactly a fair characterization either. Given how modern our military is, as well as how averse we are toward inflicting "needless" casualties, I like to think that most of our troops are sharper and smarter than the average hamburger flipper.

Interesting.........you saw "economically challenged" and you assumed "hamburger flipper" stupid.
