Remember the oxymoron...honest analyst? Well, add to it, " smart analyst"...you have your answer. As I stated elsewhere, my opinion of the guys who get paid to produce stuff for public consumption is below my opinion of many ( not all of course ) attorneys. Analysts who produce work for purely in house consumption i.e., at Vanguard, Fidelity, Wellington, Price, etc. at least retain an aura of impartiality. They answer to their own fund managers, and their salaries do not depend upon how much business is generated by, or manipulated by, their public "reports". Heck...why beat a dead horse duff..

JMHO of course.

Duff, thanks for those links and comments.

Analysts serve a function in that their incompetence creates an inefficient market that in turn allows those who do their own DD to make money.

I do feel sorry for those who are gullible enough to follow the analyst's advice, but on the other hand, if they did not lose their money here they would just lose elsewhere. As they say, "a fool and his money are soon parted".

JMHO.
