First I hate the term "Formosans". I call them local Taiwanese. I think most of them are 3rd 4th generations of Fujianese, brought by Zheng Chenggong in 17 century. And minority of them are local mountain people (other ethnic group than Han). And I think many of these "local" Taiwanese might support independence. Although I have no idea what is the percentage they count for among the total Taiwan population.

>> I read sometimes ago that they consider the ruling group as "invaders".<<

Not necessarily invaders, but because of some cruel crackdown of the locals in 1940s, a lot of them do hate Guo MinDang gov.

>>their number is so small, ...don't have any political clout.<<

Don't be so sure, the majority of the current Party in power are those Taiwanese locals (like Li, Chen). A lot of mainland Taiwanese (those who went there in late 40s from Mainland) have left after Jiang JingGuo dead because they feel the Taiwanese gov. (since Li Deng Hui in power, who himself is a Taiwanese locals, although he preferred to call himself a Japanese<g>) discriminates them. Although I have not proof, I think the majority of Taiwanese who are now live in Mainland are mainland Taiwanese. I might be wrong.

>>The Formosans are close relations to the Fujienese in Fujian province, just across the Strait. <<

They have Fujinese blood in their vein, period!
