We can agree then that you can't make any reasonable forward-looking statements regarding the banks here -- nothing one could trade in a reasonable timeframe. We're they looking ahead of fundamentals two weeks ago at a new high or now as they lag?

Is there a derivative meltdown on the horizon? Who the hell knows. If one listens to the bears, it's a done deal. Eventually, they'll be right, but so far, shorting financials has been a hit and miss proposition. BKX itself is close to the highs, so trading it in the long timeframes has not been profitable.
