Each individual person yields some sovereignty to the state by virtue of being a citizen. The same is true of states as citizens of a world community. No country in the world is, or at least was, in a better position than the United States to work towards a stronger international community. But our elected leaders did not want to go down that path. They did not want any restrictions on their designs for the world. And, viewing the United States as a "superpower", they decided a better course of action was to prove that the international community cannot act and must be usurped by the power of the United States military.

There was a time when all human disputes between people were solved by fighting. Invading Iraq was a giant step backwards.
