Yes, I can see how old conservatives are perplexed (I have more distance on the issue, as a liberal). The conservative party has been hijacked, by a group that has taken some of the worst traits of the left: fiscal irresponsibility, an overeagerness to define social boundaries, and an international adventurism more closely associated with JFK and LBJ than Reagan. When the Democrats become the party of fiscal responsibility, it is indeed a world turned upside down. :)
