Ulan Bator is a very modern city. The Yak Huts have hot and cold leaking water buckets, and nowadays they have a plastic zipper window to throw the pot of p out of. Everywhere you see Yaks downtown with velcro saddle straps and Yak herders with cellular telephones. UB, make no mistake about it, is essence of modernity. There is even talk about bringing electrical Yak Milking machines and installing sewers someday. I think it's just talk, UB is as modern as it needs to be for a population of 38 people.

BTW, Ulan Bator is the coldest capital city in the world. If anyone has visions of an easy semi tropical-desert climate to work in in Mongolia, they can forget it. Mongolia's climate is just a tad better than deepest Siberia, or the Canadian Arctic.

Now Shanghai, that is modern. Shanghai has more new office buildings built since 1980 than Toronto has buildings. You have probably seen few pictures of Shanghai but it looks a bit like a Spaceport from Star Wars. It makes New York and LA look like medieval towns in rural Albania. The benefits of taking over North American and European manufacturing.
