Yes, it is sad. Did you ever see a movie called "The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and her Lover"? Ghastly fable, it was a combination of traditional British snobbery and Left wing anti- Americanism, meant to send up the soulessness of Britain under Thatcher. I do not think I had appreciated, until then, how far gone the British scribbling classes had become......
