The military option is never the first choice, if for no other reason than we cannot afford it, nor will the public tolerate it. Nor is unilateralism the first choice. Indeed, we had the support of a number of countries, such as the UK, Australia, Poland, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Kuwait, and others even for this operation. But we did not provide a lot of the funding and manpower to establish international institutions and protect the security of our allies in the period after World War Two in order to decline to take rational steps to ensure our own security and vital interests.........
