Exactly, which is why the current fuss appears so much like homophobia rather than defense of the institution.

Look, either marriage is for anyone to do for any reason, of it's only for men and women to do for any reason. The latter excludes only homosexuals and same-sex friends. I can't find any way to justify letting male-female buddies marry so one can get access to the other's health insurance when female-female buddies can't do the same thing. Can you?

Aren't heirs, particularly male heirs, a major goal there?
