When Bush 41 took office, the military spending was $426.4b. When he left, it was $379.4b, a drop of $47b, or about $12b/year. When Clinton left eight years later, the military spending was $311.7b, a drop of $67.7b, or about $8.5b/year.

So, year over year, Bush 41 dropped the budget more than Clinton ($12b/year for Bush 41 vs $8.5b/year for Clinton). AND Clinton resided over a balanced budget, while deficits under Bush 41 reached a record $290b in 1992.

So, less of a year to year drop, but still a balanced budget, whereas Bush 41 dropped it more year to year and STILL had a record deficit. But, Bush 41 need not worry; his son is set to shatter that record at ~$450 BILLION.

Get the facts right *before* you make an argument. Works better that way.

re:" Battleships...decommisioning ALL of them was foolish. They were not only symbols for America, but could put a lot of firepower on any Marine landing operation, and/or stand off the coast of anywhere as a guard."

You are a Neanderthal aren't you??? Battleships in the 21st Century.....have you ever heard of missiles???? And a battle wagon has a crew of about 5,000....

I'm afraid you don't have a good understanding of the current military. Keeping battleships cause they did a good job in previous wars is like keeping B-17s...
