Probably is going too far, possible yes. And their actions (particuarly Lenins, Pol Pot was worse but he's harder to get a handle on so its hard to analyze his actions and motivations) don't really look like they where aimed at achieving any ideal even an ideal that I don't agree with like the communist one.

A lot better then the "breaking of a few eggs" and also better then most of what preceded it.

Marx's real failure was in believing capitalism was really stuck at that point and could not evolve past it in a democratic system.

Marx's failures go beyond that IMO. Also even if it was stuck at that point it would be better then Lennin's, let alone Stalin's and Pol Pot's regimes.

As for developing in to a democratic system. -

1 - There was democracy at the time when Marx was writing.

2- Capitalism is an economic system not a political one. It didn't develop in to democracy. The democracy that existed continued to develop.
