Why "should" they use a different word? You seem to be arguing that purely because of tradition, we should not change the meaning. "'If you wait for the majority to vote in your rights, you allow the majority to decide how long they will oppress the minority. ' That argument assumes that someone is being oppressed." If you legally exclude a class of people, it is pretty obvious someone is being oppressed. It may not be quite as obvious to people who approve of the oppression, though, I'll give you that.
