I haven't been a republican since the republicans adopted their far right social programs. I guess I'm more of an independent. I was very satisfied with the Clinton economic agenda with the exception of Robert Reich who imo represents the old style democratic pov.

I believe in free trade and I think americans can compete but the deck is stacked against us now and I want a government who can get on the side of the US and not just sit there and watch money flow out of the US. Personally I think eliminating payroll taxes and forcing currencies to float of all of our trading partners would do it.

The funny thing is that I remember in college watching republicans allow Japan to destroy the US consumer goods industry by dumping. They just let it happen. This was not free trade, it was dumping. Now we have a heavily taxed workforce and artificial currencies, same kindof deal.

Bush has the answer for the displaced PhDs who used to run engineering depts out here- community college.
