Did Stalin acquire sovereignty over the Baltic States through annexation? On the other hand, did the Confederacy acquire sovereignty by secession from the Union they had voluntarily entered into? If someone overthrows an elected government in a coup d'etat, is he able to assert sovereignty? On the other hand, if someone overthrows a monarchy hallowed by tradition, can he assert legitimacy and wield sovereignty? Did Britain have the right to unilaterally interdict the Atlantic slave trade in the early 19th century, or should it have left the cargo alone to honor sovereignty? Were the French wrong to help us during the American Revolution? Is the United States illegitimate, having violated British sovereignty? Should we return ourselves to British rule immediately? Sorry, my friend, but not all sovereignty is equal, and there is more to the matter than sloganeering.......
