Hi Don,

Nicely written. What a rarity to read such adult commentary on SI. Thanks.

there has been so little in the way of credible counterpoint. To date the official theory appears to be so weak, even its most ardent supporters are helpless to defend it without playing the part of the fool.

An interesting point ... In my own experience friends and extended family that support the Bush group are very rare, and all seem to be receiving gov't money one way or another (military, contracts, pensions), so I'm curious about others that post here. I've rarely gotten an admission that wasn't similar.

This is a factor in the explosion in gov't size, the creation of mindless supporters, including the million new bureacrats connected with new Bush pgrams.

It may also a factor in the deliberate effort by Bush Inc. to create strong political division, which benefits those in power and provides more "embattled" feeling to those who want to justify receiving gov't revenues and defense contracts. This allows greater incentives to contribute $$ to campaigns and in the political process.
