CSIS Conclusions
or
Post-war Iraq

<<The United States needs to quickly mobilize a new reconstruction coalition that is significantly broader than the coalition that successfully waged the war. The scope of the challenges, the financial requirements, and rising anti-Americanism in parts of the country make necessary a new coalition that involves various international actors (including from countries and organizations that took no part in the original war coalition). The Council for International Cooperation at the CPA is a welcome innovation, but it must be dramatically expanded and supercharged if a new and inclusive coalition is to be built.>>

Mr. Hamre sees the solution to the current situation in Iraq, he is much more vocal about securing necessary co-operation. He doesn't suggest how it will be done. The fact that he acknowledges the need does not ensure that the current administration will agree. Mr. Bush has created a significant amount of damage in US/International relations. The UK Parliament now states that their actions in Iraq have proven costly with respect to their allies. Mr Hamre also states that the US and Iraqis do not have what is needed to do the job in Iraq. The security spheres of the UN and NATO were severely damaged by the US actions. US/UN relations are going to be in the spotlight at some point in the future over the handling of Iraq, for sure.
