For example: the fact that a single parent 'can' be a successful parent, has been demonstrated repeatedly. The general results of single parenting, however, have been devastatingly unsuccessful as demonstrated by the demographics of single parent offspring. The fact that something 'can' be done is not a good reason all by itself for endorsement.
