we have had our military forces stationed all over the Globe for Centuries, we have specifically been using occupying forces in Japan, Korea, Germany for at least 50 years....we just don't call them occupying forces.
we are good and getting better.......just depends who is running the USA and their Global Outlook.
It changes every 4 to 8 years you know....

regards and all the best.

An army of occupation controls the territory it occupies. In the case of NATO, the United States had forward bases on allied territory, while the countries hosting the bases were run by elected governments. Basing by itself does not equal occupation. Right now, we still have many troops on German soil, which did not stop Germany from siding with France against us..........

But it will become "an army of permanent occupation." There is no way that the US can establish a Iraqi/ME base and control oil resources without being an army of permanent occupation.

No, that's not true at all. Did the US become an army of permanent occupation in the Phillipines? We maintained our bases there for many years. But when the Phillipinos voted us out, we left (tho Mt Pinotubo also voted, it must be admitted). There are many degrees of influence between absence of full scale occupation.
