Ted, I would prefer that its based on fact so that when oil spikes to $35 per barrel, at least I know I did the morally right thing.

I thought the price spike itself would be the "morally right thing" to do from the perspective of liberals. It will help ween us off of oil, which in turn will send less of our money to the Middle East. People would be forced to conserve, and you'll have less of those "evil SUVs" on the road. Alternative energy sources would then be pursued and made more viable. And Mother Earth will thank us for dumping less (harmful) pollutants into the air.

Of course, our economy would take a massive hit, while our rivals like the EU and China would suddenly find themselves with cheaper oil.
