I have a copy of Howard Rheingold's Smart Mobs: The Next Social Revolution, though I have not read it yet. Probably time to move it up the list.

When you do, Glenn, how about popping a review here. I've also got it on my list, checked it out of the library once, but other things got in the way. If you like it and your reasons sound like ones I would like, I'll take another look. I should add that I liked his Virtual Community book.

Howard Rheingold's Smart Mobs

Excellent, well worth the read. Focuses on Japan's trendy and amazingly co-operative youth as harbingers of what the collective cell-connected consciousness is headed for.

IMO, we'll get some of the benefits, and already are in the form of meetup.com, etc., a faster-acting ad-hocracy than can be dealt with by the usual politics. Whether this will actually elect a president, it will have an effect.

Its a heck of a lot different raising $200 million from wealthy corporate donors than sparking a viral meetup
