Sure, there is no reason to add to impediments to success, beyond difficult- to- control life situation. I look upon the civil union thing this way: there is a reasonable accommodation to those who want to form a household, whether they have sex or not, and civil union, by bundling various things generally available, like power of attorney, provides a way to expedite what is desired. In addition, people may seek liberal clergy to perform a wedding, and may consider what they have done a marriage. But society will still retain the right to bestow the category according to its best lights.......
