<iu>a democracy formed on the premise of equality in the
pursuit of happiness

Huh? Where did you get THAT from???

First of all, of course, we don't live in a democracy. We live in a democratic republic.

Second, it was NOT formed on the premise of equality. Quite the contrary. It was formed on MANY premises of structural INequality. When the republic was formed, women couldn't vote. (Worst mistake we ever made was to . . . ) Slavery was legal. Small states had as many senators as large states. The public weren't allowed to vote directly for Senators or for the President (still can't.) The votes of voters in very small states count more toward selecting a President than the votes of voters in large states, because no matter how small the state it still has three votes in the Electoral College. The founders of our republic were very much NOT believers in absolute equality. Nope. No way.
