It has evolved to be highly effective in distracting the populace so as to disguise the looting of the treasury and centralizing of authority. After all, look at what virtually any politician / bureaucrat says, and then look at what they do. The difference is staggering. The excuses are inevitably, "the other side made me do it". Even when the deed being pointed to is raising taxes, spending the next two generations' wealth, taking huge campaign bribes, passing bills to suppress freedoms and destroy the Bill of Rights. All the guilty have voted for it, yet it's always "the other side made me do it". Now, the GOP is in control of all branches of gov't. The budget is more out of control than it has ever been and there are no excuses. And still we hear, "the other side made us do it!". I actually heard Frist on Friday claim the Dems are spending $500 billion over budget, not the GOP! He said this with a straight face, in front of 100 reporters, none of whom stood up to ask why he was lying so blatantly, or did the GOP actually ever have any proposal that was $500 billion less, or even $50b less? Amazing. This only works when the populace can't count, and can't keep track of promises and people, and accepts the total and complete lack of accountability by the media as normal. They even accept an announcement of $2 TRILLION "missing" from the Pentagon without demanding a full and immediate inquiry into the theft, or even demand dismissal of all those responsible. It's a yawn. They are sheep, who quietly sleep even as they are being sheared, neutered, and quietly bled to death along with their children and grandchildren. That sort of thievery is extremism. When 40% of every breath we take belongs to the gov't, that is unparalleled extremism of a sort that would make the Founders call for another revolution.
