How about, I would take any job I could get, or start my own business, before I sat there on the dole queue not doing anything. How is getting "discouraged" an appropriate or useful response to life?

I know people who have had to look for work long-term because of their high salary requirements (in one case for 2 years). They kept looking, made a few small compromises, and guess what - they finally found something. One friend lost his job and started his own company, and now employs 8-10 people.

How about if they are looking, but they're not going to the Unemployment office for 3 hours to fill out a form and talk to a "counselor" (someone who couldn't get a job anywhere other than in the Unemployment Office) and to look at their "leads," which suck big time. There is more productive activity if you need a job. Now, if they're going to pay you benefits, then you slog on down there.
