I do not think that we have ever taken our eyes off al- Qaida, these have been separate operations. I do think that we have permitted sanctuary across the border, however, and that is a problem. I understand that the politics of cross- border raids are tricky, but we will probably have to bite that bullet eventually.

I think we will work out some degree of burden sharing in Iraq, but I do not mind being cautious at the moment. I would ensure US control at least until after elections, for example. Our allies are, in fact, pretty active in Afghanistan already, as well as in international police efforts.

I think the economy is picking up, so I am not too worried on that score. Still, you are right, the vulnerability is implicitly there.

I am not sure who will emerge for the Democrats, but it is less theirs to win as Bush's to lose.........

The new attack in Bali will (unfortunate for the victims) alert other countries that are also vulnerable and should best support or participate the in the war on terror.
.
I see no problem with the Bush "come and get us" attitude in Iraq. With attacks on the US made more difficult,
it brings the wanabe terrorists into the reach of a well armed, alert, and experienced Military
Its a lot harder for a single guard in a mall parking lot to stop them with a pistol and pepper spray.
