Chuck, I agree with much of what you right but the free market/democracy model may have to be introduced in stages. What we need perhaps are leaders with popular support who start the introductory phase while at the same time blending the new into the moslem roots. I heard a funny story on the news over the weekend on how many arab americans did not benefit from the RE boom because they are not permitted to take out mortgages(borrow money or loan it for that matter with interest). Someone had devised a rent to own model which bypassed this religous prescription. Now thats the way it may need to go in the mideast as well. The arab world needs larger than life figures to take charge and help the transtion. Folks like Attaturk in turkey or sadat in egypt. I am hoping. Mike
