The Mekong River ports of Chiang Kong and Chiang Saen in Chiang Rai are growing busier with increased volumes of shipments to provinces in the south of China.

The two ports in the north of Thailand are expected to play more significant roles as gateways to China when the the Free Trade Area (FTA) agreement for fruits and vegetables between Thailand and China takes effect on Oct 1.
