Humans are all organically rooted in heterosexuality. The state is therefore rooted in heterosexuality. It has an interest in promoting heterosexuality because where human biological schemes are concerned, heterosexuality is the state. But hey, let's abandon marriage. Let's force all Americans to accept false "unions" of homosexuals. Homosexual unions are at least as filthy and biologically foreign to humanity as polygamy. Perhaps it is even worse since polygamists at least engage in heterosexual sex, if only serially. So let's accept polygamists. And while we are at it, we may as well accept "married" groups of polygamous homosexuals. There is just no reason why we can't. None at all. Heck, let's accept people who have sex with animals. Since the biological basis for true marriage is now abandoned, all of these false schemes are logically acceptable. I am eager to see how America gets on in the next 50 years. All good things must come to an end.
