Some Vietnamese were were willing to run from the communists on tiny boats-
and some were willing to kill for the privilege of staying where they were, and having the Americans leave, and some, no doubt, didn't think about freedom or killing very much, and just tried to get on with their lives. People are complicated.

Those in the South who provided support to the US definitely had reason to dislike the outcome.
