Try the Aladdin - it is also centrally located and has a wonderful shopping area.

My wife and I got a nice room at the Aladdin last year for $69 per night (we're now living in LV). It faces the Strip with a great view of the Bellagio fountains. The adjacent Desert Passage claims to have a "mile of shops". The Aladdin complex was recently sold to Planet Hollywood and will be undergoing extensive remodeling for the next year, so perhaps bargains can be had in the interim.

The Stratosphere frequently offers good rates, as they are located a bit up the road from the rest of the crowd, and the view from the top of the Stratosphere tower is awesome.

Some of the best hotel deals can be had downtown (Lady Luck, Fitzgeralds, etc.). For those unfamiliar with LV, the downtown casino complex and Fremont Street Experience is a couple of miles north of the Strip. Decent hotel rooms can be found there in the $30 to $50 range (Sunday through Thursday, of course. The whole town is Bargain City on those days). :)
