Good luck with the "pieces of your puzzle". But don't insult my intelligence by denying that oil plays a role.

I didn't say it wasn't. I took issue with your characterization of the "neocon" justification for war as "economic self-defense." The primary reasons were not economic.

Terrorism isn't a byproduct of "Israel and oil", terrorism is a byproduct of Arab backwardness and autocracy. There is a demographic bulge in the Middle East. We can allow the past state of affairs to continue and light the powder keg, or we can act to change it. By force if necessary. So far, the pressure of a forceful American foreign policy in the region seems to be having overall positive effects. Time will tell if it was enough, of the right sort, and timely.
