<<So NK has the ability to disrupt 2/3rd of the planet's energy production??>> The "war on terror", and especially the potential for nuclear terror and nuclear war are indeed at the highest level of priority. Your idea that we had an urgent need to invade Iraq to avoid their launching some sort of oil embargo is a joke. I do not suffer fools gladly -- and ones with a pickle up their ass have little to offer the world except bad ideas and bad attitude. Enjoy your pickle.

Hawk, I think most politicians are megalomaniacs - they have to be to presume that they have some special ability to decide things for millions and billions of people. Aren't they even slightly worried that they might mess up or that somebody else could do the job better? Robert McNamara in later years realized that blowing up a bunch of Vietnamese wasn't his crowning glory. I would feel horrible guilt.

The good thing about democracy is that the rogues can be turfed out every few years, so they have to keep a weather eye on the electorate and get their power trip kicks by blowing up Saddamistas or bossing people around with bureaucracy, which most people seem to like, since they go on voting for more of it. Turkeys voting for more garnishing.

They've got at least one term to grab the goodies, girls, fun and to swagger around [depending on individual taste - King George II emphasizes the swagger and Bill the girls]

But, unfortunately, people can and do vote themselves into the poor house. Look at India. It's been a democracy for decades and goes on voting for the same old British socialist stuff. It's funny that they kicked out the Poms but kept the bad stuff. New Zealand is voting itself poor too, but at least we can move our money out these days.

No, but it sure makes that West Coast Missile Defense System look a whole lot better.
