I think that ring was a big mistake.

FWIW if you are interested in OJ comparisons, the African-American population of Eagle County, CO (according to one report I read) is less than 1 percent. So it's unlikely that Kobe will draw a jury of sympathetic postal workers like OJ did in his criminal trial.

That having been said, this is (judging by the leaks) a very close case that will turn on some key pieces of physical evidence and testimony. One report says that the bellman saw her as she left the room (and then drove her home) and that she was distraught and disheveled, and claimed that Kobe had raped her. Another report says she was bragging about the whole incident less than a week later at a party (I am skeptical of that report). Then there is her alleged "history" which has been littered across the net but may not be true or admissible.

Colorado has a pretty standard rape shield law which in most cases prohibits the defendant from introducing evidence regarding the victim's past sexual history. The rape shield law probably doesn't prohibit introduction of the victim's suicide attempts and general instability, but those things can't be introduced unless the trial judge decides they are relevant, which isn't a slam dunk here. The public is about to get an education on the rules of evidence as applied to rape trials.

Here's a good article about the legal aspects of the case:

And allow me to go over the edge on that topic

Kobe's wife is a dumb bitch! Can I say bitch on SI? I think so in this case. She knows that at very least the guy is a cheat and yet thats ok as long as the rock is large enough and the income flows. She gives women a bad name by her conduct. Now, in fairness to her, her conduct wouldn't be up for discussion if it weren't for her husband. But, it is what it is - And she stands by her man.

DUMB
