This assumes that all players in the market are equal and that is simply not true.


The "zero sum game" applies in the aggregate, i.e., if you add up the gains & losses of all option players the sum is zero (excluding transaction costs). It means that there is no wealth creation going on; in contrast, the stock market is a positive sum game because growth is the norm and the stock market grows (normally) over time as the economy grows.
