Perhaps what I said about waverers is the answer. I still think it is useful to encourage a preference for being straight.......

We could, of course, talk about areas of agreement. Stealing is generally bad. I don't want people looting in my neighborhood. Criminals should be punished (although we might disagree on who is a criminal and how they should be punished- so I won't mention that). Education of some sort is a Good Thing. Music is nice. Streets should be well maintained. Flight controllers ought to know what they are doing. 24 hour supermarkets are convenient. People ought to pick up their dog's poos. A newly mown lawn is very attractive, and it smells good too. Public gardens are nice, so are public concerts. People using city public parks as lavatories or camping areas is not a Good Thing. Saying please and thank you is polite. I could go one, and on, and on.... but I won't.
