That is one way to look at it, another that I use is to go out and talk to managers of garbage companies.
If there isn't much demand for "boxes" (20-30 yrd containers and compactors) there isn't much economic activity.

I bet you can guess where we are now in my "garbage" cycle?

Newell Rubbermaid Cuts 170 Jobs in Illinois, Prepares to Move Some Production to Mexico

FREEPORT, Ill. (AP) -- Newell Rubbermaid will lay off 170 employees who make drapery hardware for the company's Levolor-Kirsch Window Fashions division.
The Freeport-based company said Wednesday it also will move some production lines to Mexico within 12 to 18 months.
