What occured was carefully contrived to mislead. The only mistakes made were the inability to suppress critics and whistleblowers like Wilson from going public, altho' they've tried, and are still trying. The US has the power to help others and should. If we see extreme murder and cruelty towards people, we should act even if the world does not Where does it say that in the Constitution? Have you read the Constitution? The humanitarian nature of the American people is one of our primary strengths, but also a weakness exploited by our internal enemies bent on self-aggrandizement and political gain. The "soft" fascism of calling for a good purpose to mask the real pupose is what is going on here. To help the people of the world means deciding who to help, and how. You have accepted the neocon premises here, without examining the underlying motives and the real truth. The real truth about suffering and exploitation includes many other countries and millions of other people. The way to attack that is by telling the truth, not lying. Volunteers from all over the world will flock in behind American moral leadership, but refuse to help in profiteering on oil and weapons. The neocons have hijacked the US onto a solo enterprise, making the rest of the world hostile to us and increasing the dangers to US citizens. We can't look the other way when there is a Hitler or Saddam involved. Saddam is very different from Hitler, he was disarmed and boxed in when we attacked. However there is some similarity: both Hitler and Saddam were supported by business dealings with a Bush and cronies behind the scenes who later try to hide that association. It may just be that we are finally waking the sleeping giant and government incompetence (by any administration and intelligence community) is finally changing its momentum It might be "incompetence" if there were no obvious pattern of protection of the terrorists, and no obvious gain for those who ordered their protection. That puts it in another category. The Bush administration is nothing without terrorism, they depend on it for political power, and for several trillion dollars in defense spending, and for a trillion or two in oil contract management. Its awfully handy. And very secret when it comes to disclosing exactly what, when, who, and what we're doing about it. That's the problem. It's a political fact that Americans rally around their leaders when extremism threatens Up to a point. As Mussolini found out, when extremism and fascism goes too far, the people finally have their say. When the populace finally got to him they hung his body in the street and set it on fire. They were a little bit angry, I would say.
