That, imo, is why the Spartan gals had to wrestle with their men while dressed as young boys. :-) It's all fantasy, and humans are in to fantasy. As a strategy I see no reason why it wouldn't work- and it really did seem to appeal to the Spartans. They didn't live with their wives, you know. Fascinating civilization. I'm going to try to find a good book on it, and when I finish the 50 thousand other books in my house, I'll read it.

Make sure you see the PBS program on the Spartans. They did WORRY about birthrates- and they had laws to force reluctant men to mate with women (one thing I recall was, that they marched unmarried men naked around the town squares saying embarrassing things about themselves). BTW- I think you would like 1940's house as well (no connection to the Spartans- just another good PBS program). I saw Victorian house on PBS, and it wasn't all that good- I liked it, but it was more of a soap opera. 1940's house has some GREAT history- your whole family might like it. Mine did.

:-)
