It is true, Spartan women were freer. On the other hand, Spartan life was highly regimented for all, and I wonder how thrilled they were that they had no meaningful relationship with their offspring.......

I have not been able to find material specifically on the question of aversion to situations going against sexual orientation, so I can only raise the question of whether, at most times in human development, a reliance on fantasy would be adequate. Probably in a sophisticated society, supplemented by considerations of lighting and costumery, it would, but otherwise, I doubt it, and therefore would suppose that the replacement level would not be maintained.

The deeper question I find myself with, even granting that replacement level is achieved or exceeded, is whether other forms of childraising are just as good as having two parents, in affectionate bonds, in a household. If erotic affection were directed at someone outside of the family, and given the greater male tendency towards promiscuity, which seems to be exacerbated by homosexuality, I would suppose that most women would be virtually abandoned to raise their children on their own. Of course, the women might band together, but there is extensive data that a male parent (or surrogate) has a useful role in the development of both sexes, but especially boys. One could also imagine that uncles or the woman's father might fullfill such a role, but whether they would be any more attentive is problematic.

If I have any other thoughts on the matter, I will post them.......
