With reservations, I am prepared to entertain the idea of workability, but that is not the sole thing. Optimization is also a consideration. I disapprove of the way the upper class traditionally raises its children, for example, so yes, I think it matters what the child- rearing arrangments were,and if they were better or worse than that of others. For example, I think that if there is a gay couple who wants to adopt a child, it should be able to. However, if there were both a gay and straight couple vying for the child, I would consider there to be a "rebuttable presumption" in favor of the straight couple (rebuttable if you can show unfitness). I think being adopted is better than being in an orphanage, but that it is usually better to have both a mother and father.
