If so I don't know why they say "wife, daughter or sister"

There's a sign on the kiddie pool enclosure at my condo pool that says that the kiddies have to be accompanied by "an adult or parent." That seems weird to me. Granted, a parent wouldn't necessarily have to be be an adult, although it's very unlikely that would not be the case. In any event, you'd think the sign would say "a parent or adult" with "parent" having prominence and "adult" suggesting "other adult." Sometimes odd wording is significant and sometimes it's just sloppy wording. Problem is we can't know and it leaves us scratching our heads during boring workouts or web surfing.

I would guess that they mean "a female member of another man's household". An unmarried daughter would be at her fathers, unless he were dead, in which case she would be taken in by her brother. Absent a protector, I suppose the maximum penalty would not be imposed........
